Conor McGregor Is “Fully Locked In”
By Eddie Sanchez
John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor’s coach, says the Irishman’s comeback plans are sincere and has already begun training for a potential fight at the UFC White House event in June.
McGregor has not fought since July 2021 when he suffered a stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, resulting in a broken leg. He was supposed to make his return in June 2024 against Michael Chandler, however, he withdrew one day before the press conference claiming he had a broken pinky toe.
McGregor has claimed numerous times that he wants to fight at the UFC White House event in June 2026 and even declared a fight against Chandler was a “done deal.”
Dana White dispelled that claim, saying that fights for the White House won’t even be discussed until February. Conor has reentered the UFC’s testing pool and has started training, as Kavanagh confirmed that McGregor has embarked on a full seven-month camp and is showing up to the gym locked in for a return to the Octagon.
“On our end, we’re 100 percent in. He’s asked me to basically lay out a program between now and June on how we’ll ramp up our training. He’s showing up again; he’s back in the gym most mornings. Early. He’s having fun with it! Tasked me with putting together a team of suitable training partners. He’s fully locked in that we’re gonna be making the walk. If it’s Conor’s choice, he’s in,” Kavanagh said.
