Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KO) has confirmed that training camp is underway for his September 12 return in Riyadh.

The fight will headline a “Mexico Against the World” card, serving as the debut event for Canelo Promotions.

Following his unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025—which cost him the undisputed super middleweight title—and subsequent elbow surgery, Alvarez is targeting a reigning world champion. With Crawford now retired, the division’s titles are currently fragmented.

Christian Mbilli, recently elevated to full WBC super middleweight champion, is one potential opponent. However, his availability may hinge on a possible mandatory rematch with Lester Martinez.

Meanwhile, Alvarez’s team is also watching the WBO title picture: on May 23, Hamzah Sheeraz faces Alem Begic for the vacant belt, with the winner emerging as another viable option.

Former Canelo opponent, Jaime Munguia, challenges Jose Armando Resendiz for his WBA title. This title was elevated following his WBA regular title victory over Caleb Plant in 2025.

There are a ton of interesting options brewing for Canelo as he prepares for his return.
