Wilder vs Chisora is Close to a Reality; the Usyk Rumors Will Sit on the Sidelines for Now
By Eddie Sanchez
A heavyweight showdown between Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora is being heavily reported as all set for London in April, though the latest understanding is that official contracts have yet to be signed.
On Monday, when the bout was first reported by Brunch Boxing, Chisora posted a video on social media that showed him signing a contract. However, sources have now claimed that the contract seen in the video is not a genuine one.
Chisora, 36-13 (23 KO), previously stated that his 50th bout would be his last, and earlier negotiations were underway to match him with Wilder in December 2025. Wilder, however, chose to go a different route, which led many to believe that this fight was no longer a possibility.
There had been speculation that Wilder would challenge world heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk for his three belts later in the year, with the unified champion indicating that the “Bronze Bomber” was his preferred challenger.
Should the bout with Chisora go ahead, victory over the 42-year-old is by no means a foregone conclusion, and Wilder’s title shot plans could be altered.
Chisora is ranked #2 by the IBF and #6 by the WBO, while Wilder holds no top ten rankings. Perhaps this fight is necessary for Wilder to enable a championship challenge against Usyk. If this fight takes place, the victor can make a legitimate callout to Usyk given their respective resumes.
