Tyson Fury Announces Comeback, Targets Three Opponents
By Eddie Sanchez
Following another loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury announced his retirement from the sport.
And after sitting out for the entirety of 2025, at the back end of the year, rumors surfaced of a potential clash between ‘The Gypsy King’ and Anthony Joshua.
Although talks seemed to have been trending in the right direction, Joshua was involved in a tragic car crash that killed two of his friends, leaving his position in the sport unclear.
An unfortunate turn of events might steer Fury into a new direction, and the 37-year-old followed that up by revealing his three-man hit list for the new year, as he looks to reclaim the heavyweight titles.
The first fighter on Fury’s hit list was Joshua; however, that fight is unlikely to happen given the tragic event that took place.
Just over a week after being involved in a tragic car accident, according to Joshua’s family, he has told them he will be retiring from boxing, seemingly putting an end to any further talks of the superfight.
The second man on Fury’s list was his longtime rival, Usyk, who currently holds three of the four heavyweight titles.
‘The Gypsy King’ will likely have to accumulate a few impressive wins before he is given a trilogy against Usyk.
The final fighter on his list was Fabio Wardley, who currently holds the WBO heavyweight title after Usyk dropped it.
Fury then went one step further by saying: “Wardley could be an option in 2026. Big smoke after a long lay off.”
That is a fight to get excited about. That is a huge all-British matchup that could get a trilogy with Usyk on the cards.
In advance of this potential fight, though, it may be smart for Fury to take a tune-up. Someone like Zheli Zhang would be a strong, marketable opponent that could make sense. Doesn’t move too much, so it won’t frustrate Fury in that regard, but also packs power and is willing to exchange.
All things considered, fans should be happy Fury is returning and be hopeful Joshua makes a complet recovery, both physically and mentally.
