Oleksandr Usyk Talks 3 Fights to Close Career
By Eddie Sanchez
Oleksandr Usyk shared his plans before retiring in a recent interview with Ring Magazine. When asked how many times he intends to step into the ring again, Usyk simply replied, “Three fights.”
He ruled out a bout with rising heavyweight Moses Itauma, explaining, “No. I do not want to fight with Itauma because it’s young guy. I do not want to break this guy, this is guy I like.”
Instead, Usyk said his preferred final opponents would be Rico Verhoeven first (which is already confirmed), the winner of a potential fight between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois second, and finally a third bout with his longtime rival, Tyson Fury, whom he jokingly referred to as his friend “Greedy Belly.”
Thoughts From Agit Kabayel After Being Left Out
Agit Kabayel, the WBC Mandatory challenger, reacted publicly on Instagram after hearing Usyk’s plans.
“My parents always told me to stay humble and respectful,” Kabayel shared.
“But I can’t accept being ignored any longer. I deserve the title shot.” “How can he not name the number one in the rankings, his mandatory challenger? It’s just sad that he’d rather fight Dubois or Fury a third time, even though he’s already beaten them both twice.”
