Moses Itauma Needs a Real Challenge

By Eddie Sanchez

Moses Itauma dominated Jermaine Franklin Jr., as expected, though it was how he did it that was so intriguing.

Itauma was toying with Franklin for five rounds. It was obvious that his speed, his southpaw stance, and his power were too much for the American. And yet, Itauma took his time, was methodical with his approach, and set up a cruise-control victory.

Itauma knocked Franklin in the third, and didn’t necessarily step on the gas again the rest of the fight. His power was just TOO much.

In the fifth, it felt as if it was only a matter of time before Itauma would finish Franklin. And he FINISHED him with a caps-lock exclamation.

At this point, I (we) need to see Usyk vs Itauma. I don’t care if Usyk claims that he doesn’t want to burn out the young stars’ bright light. This is THE fight for both of them.

A true test to see which era is, at present, the most dominant.

If Itauma wants to fight (destroy) Gassiev for the WBA Regular belt first, fine, just make it happen as soon as possible. He took no damage in this fight, and no disrespect to Gassiev, but he is no match for Itauma.

All I know is Itauma is next, and Usyk should be next for him.
