Mayweather-Gotti III Rematch Set! Bring on the Drama!
By Eddie Sanchez
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III will square off once again in an exhibition fight in 2024. Mayweather, a master of capitalizing on the calendar, will showcase his skills against his rival during Super Bowl weekend.
The two initially faced off in June 2023, in a fight that brought tremendous controversy. Mayweather, as assumed, dominated proceedings as he hit his opponent at will. As the fight progressed, Mayweather taunted his opponent, given the lack of attention needed to overcome his opponent in the ring.
At this point, Gotti began to escalate, enabling both fighters to launch verbal attacks, which resulted in a warning by referee, Kenny Bayless. The antics did not stop however, which led to Bayless calling the fight.
In response, Gotti swung toward Mayweather after the bell, causing the entourage of each fighter to enter the ring. The incident resulted in Gotti receiving a six-month suspension, and Twitter erupted with speculation as to whether the fight was staged.
The upcoming rematch will be Mayweather’s eighth exhibition bout. There were earlier rumors of a matchup against four-division champion, Mikey Garcia, though those were quickly dismissed.
