Jake Paul Will Fight Pro-Boxer, Andre August, Next
By Eddie Sanchez
Jake Paul has announced his opponent in his next boxing match, and it’s a pivot in regard to his strategy thus far. Paul will take on Andre August (10 – 1, 5 KO).
The YouTuber-turned-prizefighter will return to the ring on Dec. 15 in Orlando, Florida. The bout will be contested at cruiserweight (200 pounds max) and is set for eight rounds.
This shift in strategy for Paul, comes at an opportune time, as he has faced primarily older MMA fighters who have made a name for themselves in the UFC and Bellator. In his next opponent, August will provide his most legitimate test in the pro ranks, next to Tommy Fury (10 – 0, 4 KO).
While this fight doesn’t carry the big-name value of his previous opponents, Paul’s critics expressed that he fights legitimate boxers — and August, by far Paul’s most experienced opponent in boxing, is representative of that.
“I’m a professional boxer and I want to be world champion, so I need to pursue the path towards greatness against people who have been boxing their whole life,” Paul shared in a statement.
The card will stream on DAZN and is not a pay-per-view event, which again, is a pivot in strategy for the star.
Paul (7 – 1, 4 KOs) will enter this fight coming off a unanimous decision victory over former UFC legend Nate Diaz in August. Prior to that, the Ohio native was dealt his first career defeat, against Tommy Fury.
“Pound-for-pound, the great Terence Crawford fought a 9-14 opponent in his ninth fight, Canelo Alvarez fought a 0-1 opponent, and Gervonta Davis fought an opponent that had 31 losses,” said Nakisa Bidarian, Paul’s business partner and co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “But Terence, Canelo and Gervonta didn’t have the world watching. Jake Paul does, and he’s once again putting it all on the line taking on a 10-1 opponent.”
August, 35, is on a five-fight winning streak, though his previous two bouts were fought in August 2023 and November 2019 for context into his activity. This will be the Houston-based fighter’s first time competing in an eight-round bout.
“Jake Paul has the money, the fame, the team, and the resources but he doesn’t have my hunger,” August said in a statement. “When that bell rings, I am going to go straight to Jake Paul and ring his bell and send him back to YouTube for good.”
The co-main event of the card will feature a WBC women’s super middleweight title fight between Shadasia Green (MVP Promotions) and Franchón Crews-Dezurn. This is great exposure for the title fight, which was previously postponed, and yet another example of Paul’s positive influence in women’s boxing.
Paul has been credited by Amanda Serrano, undisputed featherweight champion, and champion in seven weight classes, as the influential force within MVP Promotions that enabled her to earn her first seven-figure single-fight purse against Katie Taylor.
