Fury vs Usyk: One Step Closer, or One to the Side?
By Eddie Sanchez
Tyson Fury improved his record to (33 – 0 – 1) via his unnecessary trilogy victory over Derek Chisora. Chisora was once again dismissed in the 10th round against Fury, and Fury walked out of the ring largely unscathed.
While this bout was a waste of time (with all do respect), all eyes are no fully focused on Oleksandr Usyk.
Chatter has been strong for months about the potential Undisputed Heavyweight fight between the two champions, and if both sides are motivated to put their best foot forward, fans should expect to see this bout in the first-half of 2023.
Post-fight, seeing Fury jawing towards Usyk was a sight to see. Excitement is brewing and now more than ever, it appears that positive steps will be taking place within the next few months to get the fight booked.
“I’m looking forward to a big 2023. I hear all this about ‘big money’ in Saudi Arabia,” said Tyson Fury at the post-fight press conference last Saturday night after his win over Derek Chisora.
“Frank was telling me that it might be in the first quarter of next year in February or early March. So let’s do it. I’m willing, and Usyk looks like he’s willing.”
If we are to take a man at his word, the hourglass has officially been turned upside down. While not a given to take place, it would be hard to argue against the theme that we as fans are the closest in the 2000s to get a super fight leading towards an Undisputed champion.
