Conor Benn’s Zuffa Deal is Barely Zuffa Related

By Eddie Sanchez

Conor Benn’s first and only fight, currently under contract, as Zuffa Boxing’s highest-profile signing, will be against Regis Prograis on the Netflix undercard of Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11.

Benn leaving Matchroom for Zuffa sent a shock throughout the industry as the Benn-Hearn relationship was seen as one of the strongest fighter-promoter relationships in the sport. Nevertheless, Been left for a one-fight, eight figure deal, to secure his services for a fight that will not only see him as a co-main event, rather than a headliner, but will see him take on a much older opponent on Netflix, as opposed to Paramount where the previous three Zuffa cards have taken place.

Prograis (30-3, 24 KO), 37, last fought in August, where he defeated Joseph Diaz. This followed back-to-back defeats to Jack Catterall and Devin Haney, respectively. His loss to Haney saw him lose the WBC light welterweight title.

“Last time I fought in London, Conor Benn was on my undercard, so this is a full-circle moment for me,” said Prograis. “But this circle will close with me teaching him a lesson on April 11th. He’s not fighting some weight-drained super middleweight. I am in shape and will bring home this victory.”
