Agit Kabayel Calls Next

By Eddie Sanchez

Fresh off his victory against Damian Knyba, Agit Kabayel, the WBC Mandatory Challenger, was asked if he has any interest in other fights, against Lawrence Okolie and Tyson Fury. The 33 year old made it clear he wants a world title shot next, and dismissed the suggestions of Okolie and Fury.

“What brings the other fights for me?” Kabayel said after his latest win, this at the post-fight presser. “I fought three big names in boxing – Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez, Zhilei Zhang – (and I) just fought another guy who hadn’t lost in his career.”

“What do I want with, no disrespect to Lawrence or the other guys, but I think I’m ready for the world title shot, please. Why are we making boxing so political? I’m the (WBC) mandatory, give me the Usyk fight.”

“I’m not interested in fighting Fury, he’s my brother, and he helped support me so much in my career, so no. Wardley, why not? We can make it in Germany or the UK, send me a location.”

Options to Discuss

While Usyk vs Kabayel would surely be a fantastic fight, with Wilder being the primary topic of discussion for the unified champion, Kabayel is best served targeting Fabio Wardley, the bruising heavyweight who is the WBO champion.

Agit Kabayel and Fabio Wardley are both promoted by Queensberry Promotions, headed by Frank Warren. They are both part of Queensberry’s strong heavyweight roster and currently mark the top two contenders for Usyk’s unified crown.

A fight between the two would simply be action-packed. Kabayel, while dominant in his last fight, showed he can be hit. Wardley is a bruiser, he’s tough, and would come hungry.

THIS is the fight to make next.
