MVP MMA: Rousey, Ngannou and Perry are BIG Winners

By Eddie Sanchez

Ronda Rousey defeated Gina Carano via her signature submission (armbar). This was a quick one. Round 1 (0:17). Vintage Rousey.

In her first MMA fight since 2016, “Rowdy” closed the distance instantly, secured the takedown, transitioned through a guillotine attempt, and locked in her armbar for the tap. Carano’s return after more than a decade and a half away ended in short order.

In the co-main event, Mike Perry defeated Nate Diaz via TKO (corner stoppage). This was a bloody affair. Perry pressured behind heavy elbows, knees, and body work from the opening bell, dropping Diaz with a knee just as the second-round bell sounded. With Diaz’s face a mess, the corner was forced to halt the fight. The “King of Violence” lives up to the name in his return to MMA and has his sights set on future opportunities with MVP MMA.

Francis Ngannou defeated Phillipe Lins via KO in Round 1. The Predator remains the lineal heavyweight king. Lins survived early scrambles and tried to grind Ngannou against the cage, but a single Ngannou right hand on the break sent him crashing, and the fight was over in short order. This was another first-round knockout for one of the most feared punchers in heavyweight history.
