DAZN and Golden Boy Set to Announce Extension
By Eddie Sanchez
Rumors have circulated over the weekend that a formal announcement of Golden Boy Promotions re-signing with DAZN on a multi-year extension is said to be “forthcoming.” This development further strengthens the streaming network’s boxing coverage, coming shortly after bringing in Top Rank.
Golden Boy’s past agreement with DAZN ended on New Year’s Day, though they worked together for a pair of shows this year, signaling a positive progression in regard to their negotiations.
DAZN has streaming deals in place with UK-based Matchroom and Queensberry, and announced a multi-year, non-exclusive agreement with Bob Arum’s Top Rank that is expected to launch later this spring, includes a deal with Salita Promotions cards, and now with Golden Boy, DAZN renews ties to a strong stable that includes new WBC welterweight titleholder Ryan Garcia, unified cruiserweight champion Zurdo Ramirez, recent title challengers Arnold Barboza Jr. and William Zepeda, and unbeaten lightweight contender Floyd Schofield Jr.
There is a lot of momentum for DAZN to stage an Ennis title shot against WBO and WBA junior middleweight champion Xander Zayas on June 6 in New York, with the winner potentially facing Golden Boy contender Vergil Ortiz.
DAZN is making moves to solidify themselves as the premier destination for boxing in both the US and UK markets.
