UFC White House Card is Announced

By Eddie Sanchez

After months of speculation and tons of expectations for the quality of the card, the UFC White House card has been officially announced, and reactions have been mixed. Neither Conor McGregor nor Jon Jones appeared on the card listing.

Healdining ‘UFC Freedom 250’, will be the highly anticipated lightweight title fight between champion Ilia Topuria and interim title holder Justin Gaethje. Gaethje is fresh off his UD victory over Paddy Pimblett on January 24 to earn the interim title.

The co-main event, which is arguably the more intriguing fight, will feature Alex Pereira, who will be moving up in weight after vacating his light-heavyweight title, to face Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship. After holding titles at middleweight and light heavyweight, Pereira is attempting to become the first-ever three-division UFC champion with the Interim title on the line. Dana White has already stated that is Pereira is victorious, they will look into the status of Tom Aspinall for the full title.

Filling out the card are several intriguing fights, though they do not meet the vast expectations of fans. The rhetoric from Dana White and others within the UFC was that this would be the best fight card ever put together. I think we can comfortably say that this is not the case. While this is a fine card with many intriguing storylines, the UFC will have an uphill battle to match fan excitement with their previous rhetoric.
