Last weekend, Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol clashed for the undisputed light heavyweight world title, with Beterbiev emerging victorious. However, the decision sparked widespread controversy. Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) chairperson, Turki Alalshikh, expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome and announced plans to organize a rematch.

In the fight, Beterbiev showcased his aggressive power-punching style, while Bivol maintained control with tactical precision. Despite Beterbiev’s victory, many—including boxing experts, professional fighters, and prominent Saudi sports figures—disagreed with the ruling.

“I don’t think the result is fair,” said Alalshikh, as he left ringside at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. He praised the bout as one of the best in the last 20 years but stated his belief that Bivol won by two rounds. Alalshikh vowed to push for a rematch, stating, “These two fighters are like brothers to me, but I believe Bivol edged it. I will work to make the rematch happen.”

Alalshikh, a key figure in boxing, is determined to ensure that the rematch between Beterbiev and Bivol is the next fight for Beterbiev. He made it clear to Beterbiev’s promoters, including Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc., that the rematch is the only bout he is willing to fully fund.

Speaking on the matter, Bivol’s promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged Alalshikh’s commitment: “We know he’s a man of his word. There has to be a rematch because of the controversy surrounding the fight.” Hearn emphasized that a rematch is inevitable, adding, “What other fight is there for Beterbiev? The world wants to see it again, and I believe most ringside felt the same.”
